When many people hear they have to get a root canal, which is also called endodontic therapy, they cringe. However, they often misunderstand the treatment. In fact, many believe untrue things about this treatment. So, to help you know a little more about endodontic therapy in Falls Church, Virginia, Dr. Bahar Rowhani and our dental team would like to share some facts and details about the treatment.
Endodontic treatment is used to restore a tooth that is severely infected or decayed. Generally, this treatment is needed because the pulp and nerve of the tooth are harmed. During your appointment, Dr. Bahar Rowhani will remove the nerve and the pulp and will clean and seal the tooth, whether it’s with a dental filling or dental crown.
This treatment has the reputation for being painful. But, whether you believe it or not, the treatment process itself is actually less painful than the pain experienced before the treatment. It’s also no more painful than having a dental filling placed.
After the treatment, you might be a little sore for a few days. This is because of the natural tissue inflammation. However, you should be able to dull the discomfort by taking over-the-counter pain medication. Typically, you should be able to return to normal activities the day after your treatment. Until then, it’s best to rest.
