Our Falls Church Comprehensive Dentistry team recommends brushing your teeth twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Brushing can help you deeply clean your smile and boost your oral health. However, that’s only possible if you properly brush your teeth each time. So, to help you make sure you’re getting the most out of your brushing technique, your dentist, Dr. Bahar Rowhani, recommends following these three steps:
Step 1: Hold your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to the gums. When you’re ready, gently move the brush back and forth in short, tooth-wide strokes.
Step 2: Make sure to brush the inner, outer, and chewing surfaces of the teeth. When cleaning the inside surfaces, tilt the brush vertically and make several up-and-down strokes.
Step 3: Don’t forget to brush your tongue after you’ve brushed your teeth. Brushing your tongue will remove bacteria and freshen your breath.
Following these steps can give you the clean and pristine smile you’re looking for. As you brush, please use products that have been approved by the American Dental Association. If you do, you will be using products that are safe and effective. We also ask you to remember to floss your teeth and rinse your mouth at least once a day. Doing so will help you clean the bacteria, plaque, and other harmful particles from your mouth.
